Katsina Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Aliyu Sani for Impersonation, Attempted Robbery With Toy Pistol

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Sani, for allegedly impersonating a criminal and attempting to rob a resident with a toy pistol. The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri in Katsina metropolis, following a swift response by police operatives and members of a local vigilante group.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026. According to the police spokesperson, the incident began at about 7:00 p.m. on the same day when the command received a report that the suspect was seen chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim. The suspect was allegedly attempting to rob the victim using the imitation firearm.

Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives collaborated with members of the local vigilante group to track and arrest the suspect. He was apprehended about an hour later at Kofar Sauri. Upon arrest and a subsequent search, a black toy pistol was recovered from his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding how he came into possession of the toy pistol. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation, which led to the swift arrest of the suspect. He further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help decimate all forms of crime and criminality in the state.

This incident highlights the growing trend of using imitation firearms to commit crimes, and the police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Katsina State.
