The Edo State Police Command has recorded another major victory in its ongoing battle against kidnapping, successfully rescuing 66-year-old Mr Obareki Emmanuel from the Ibeakuma Forest on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after a five-day ordeal that saw his wife rescued earlier in the week. The operation, which involved a coordinated effort by the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, Edo State Security Corps, 82 Mobile Police Force personnel, and local vigilantes, underscores the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in the state.
The victim was kidnapped alongside his wife, who was rescued unhurt on September 4, 2026. Following the earlier rescue, the police sustained an intelligence-led operation, using technical intelligence and bush-combing to track the kidnappers to a location within the forest where they had positioned themselves to collect the ransom payment. At about 4:30 p.m. on September 6, security operatives moved into the area, leading to the successful rescue of the victim unhurt and the recovery of the ransom money. The kidnappers engaged the security team but escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds, and a bush-combing operation remains ongoing to track, arrest, and bring the fleeing suspects to justice.
In a separate incident, the Command is also investigating a robbery that occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on September 6, 2026, at the residence of Hon. Kennedy Odion, State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, off Winners Road, Uhie, Benin City. The hoodlums reportedly made away with four mobile phones, ₦500,000 in cash, two Toyota Highlander vehicles, and other valuables. The Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, personally visited the scene and directed an immediate, comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending the perpetrators. The case has been taken over by the Violent Crime Response Unit, while detectives have processed the scene and commenced investigation.
The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led, proactive and collaborative policing, assuring residents that every available resource will continue to be deployed towards protecting lives and property and bringing criminal elements to justice.
