Former Benue Assembly Speaker Dajoh Denies Alleged Plot to Impeach Governor Alia

Published on 27 August 2025 at 10:02

The attention of Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, has been drawn to claims alleging that he intended to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia. The former Speaker has described the allegations as baseless, misleading, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

According to his media aide, Terver Zamber, Dajoh has consistently maintained a cordial and constructive relationship with Governor Alia and remains the best-serving Speaker in the history of the Assembly. Notably, days before his resignation, the House under his leadership passed a vote of confidence in the Governor, reaffirming the Assembly’s support for the government’s initiatives.

The former Speaker questioned why, if an impeachment attempt was purportedly planned, he is the only legislator facing suspension, noting that Hon. Terna Shimawua, who moved the suspension motion, was speaking in the House for the very first time since his election to the tenth Assembly.

While Dajoh has accepted the three-month suspension in good faith, his team emphasizes that it appears to be a political maneuver orchestrated by non-state actors and executed by elements within the Assembly. The former Speaker resigned to preserve peace and act in the best interest of Benue State.

Stone Reporters News gathered that Dajoh’s office urges the public to disregard the claims and continue supporting the progress and development of Benue State.
