Former President of Liberia and football legend, George Manneh Weah, Sr., has been appointed by FIFA President, Mr. Gianni Infantino, to lead the newly constituted FIFA Players’ Voices Panel on Racism.

In a letter dated September 5, 2025, addressed to Infantino, Weah expressed deep appreciation for the honour and pledged unwavering commitment to the task of eliminating racism from football.

Weah emphasized that the panel, which comprises seasoned professionals with firsthand experience of racism in their careers, will work tirelessly to develop practical solutions aimed at eradicating the scourge both on and off the pitch.

“Alongside the esteemed professionals appointed with me, we will work assiduously to find effective solutions to eliminate the ugly scourge of racism from the beautiful game. As individuals who have personally experienced racism during our own careers, we understand how profoundly damaging it is — not just to the sport, but to players, fans, supporters, and humanity at large,” Weah stated.

He further reiterated his longstanding commitment to FIFA, having previously served as a member of the FIFA Football Committee, while assuring that this new role will be pursued with the same dedication and passion.

Weah described the appointment as a “proud moment” for himself and his fellow distinguished panellists, stressing their collective resolve to “kick racism out of the beautiful game, for the good of the game, and for humanity.”

Analysts say FIFA’s creation of the Players’ Voices Panel marks a renewed push to address one of football’s most persistent challenges, with Weah’s leadership bringing both moral authority and lived experience to the table.
