Nigeria’s U-20 male football team, the Flying Eagles, is set to commence a two-week training camp in Chile starting Tuesday as preparations intensify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The team will depart Abuja on Sunday night, with the camp aimed at acclimatizing players to the local weather and altitude, refining tactics, and fostering team cohesion. Friendly matches against local Chilean sides are also scheduled to help the squad adjust to playing conditions ahead of the tournament.

The Flying Eagles are in Group D, opening their World Cup campaign against Norway on Monday, September 29, before facing Saudi Arabia and concluding the group stage against Colombia in a decisive match that could determine qualification to the knockout rounds.

Coach Zubair Aliyu has stressed discipline, quick transitions, and sharp finishing as key elements for Nigeria’s campaign. The current squad, training in Abuja, features top talents from domestic academies, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), amateur leagues, and promising players from European clubs.

Technical officials confirmed that the camp will also focus on injury assessments, physical conditioning, and tactical fine-tuning to ensure the squad is in peak form for the opening game.

Nigeria has previously reached the FIFA U-20 World Cup final twice but is yet to lift the trophy, despite producing numerous global football stars. Coach Aliyu expressed confidence that the current group possesses the quality, resilience, and creativity needed to contend for Nigeria’s first-ever U-20 title.

Players are reportedly motivated by the historic opportunity to deliver glory for Nigeria while showcasing their talents on the world stage in South America. Proper preparation, early acclimatization, and technical discipline are expected to enhance the Flying Eagles’ chances of success in Chile.
