Abuja – The Federal Ministry of Environment has alerted the public to the emergence of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating the Honourable Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal. The Ministry clarified that these fake accounts are attempting to mislead citizens and solicit personal information or money under the guise of official communication.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized that the Minister’s official social media accounts are limited to X (Twitter) @BalarabeAbbas_, Facebook page Balarabe Abbas Lawal, and Instagram @balarabeabbas_. These accounts are used exclusively to share updates on the Minister’s activities and official communications from the Ministry.
The public was cautioned that the Minister does not send private messages, request money, or seek personal details through any social media platform. Any communication received outside the official channels should be treated as fraudulent.
The Ministry urged citizens to remain vigilant, verify sources of information, and report suspicious accounts to relevant authorities. It further stated that neither the Minister nor the Ministry would be liable for any losses or damages resulting from scams perpetrated through these fraudulent accounts.
This advisory comes as part of ongoing efforts by government agencies to safeguard citizens against online scams and ensure that official communications are accurate and trustworthy.
