On the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan of Kogi Central has urged Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and mothers, while embracing the present and working collectively toward a prosperous future.

In her Independence Day message, Senator Akpoti Uduaghan emphasized that the celebration is not just a commemoration of Nigeria’s birth but also a recognition of the resilience and unbreakable spirit of its people. She described Independence Day as a reminder of the courage, vision, and dedication of the pioneers who fought for sovereignty, justice, and unity.

“Independence Day is more than a date etched in history. It is a reminder of the sacrifices of our founding fathers and mothers—those who dared to dream of a sovereign nation where freedom, justice, and unity would define our collective destiny,” she stated.

The Senator highlighted that Nigeria stands at a critical juncture, facing economic challenges, insecurity, and social inequality. However, she also pointed to the achievements and innovations emerging from citizens across the country, noting the rise of young entrepreneurs building globally recognized technology brands, farmers providing sustenance to millions, and artists redefining cultural expressions on the international stage.

“To embrace the present is to acknowledge both our challenges and our triumphs… We must recognize the power of today, for it is in the present that we craft the legacy of tomorrow,” she said.

Senator Akpoti Uduaghan called for unity and collective effort in realizing the vision of the nation’s heroes. She stressed that a successful Nigeria cannot be divided by ethnicity, religion, or politics but must instead be bound by shared values of justice, equity, and prosperity. She called on both the government and citizens to commit to nation-building, service, and accountability.

“Sixty-five years on, the task before us is clear: to transform our vast potential into tangible progress, to ensure no Nigerian is left behind, and to pass on to future generations a country worthy of their pride,” she added.

She concluded her message with a call to action and hope, urging Nigerians to celebrate not only past achievements but also the potential of the present and the promise of a brighter future. By honouring the past, embracing the present, and working together, she affirmed that Nigerians can build the Nigeria envisioned by the country’s founding heroes.

“Today, let us celebrate not just how far we have come, but also the brighter future we can build together. By honouring our past, embracing the present, and marching with hope, we shall bring to life the Nigeria our heroes envisioned,” Senator Akpoti Uduaghan concluded.
