Panic and renewed concern over security conditions in Plateau State emerged after suspected armed assailants reportedly killed eight residents in Mbwelle Village, Kwatas District of Bokkos Local Government Area during a late night incident that has drawn attention from security authorities and community leaders.
Security sources indicated that the attack occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on April 9, adding that the assailants were suspected to be armed bandits believed to have operated in a coordinated manner before escaping the area prior to the arrival of responding forces.

Those killed include Habila Istifanus aged 38, Hassan Istifanus aged 31, Iliya Mangut aged 70, Sunday Gideon aged 31, Innocent Banabas aged 20, Lucky Titus aged 38, Wisdom Lucky aged 15, and Bwehsun Hassan aged 25, according to information provided by community sources and confirmed by local officials.
Following the incident, joint security forces were mobilised to the area after a distress call was received, although reports indicate that the attackers had already left the scene before troops arrived at the location.
Officials attributed the delayed arrival of security personnel to the distance between the affected village and the nearest military base, estimated at about fifteen kilometres, as well as the challenging terrain which limited rapid movement and response capability.
