Nigerian troops have intercepted a cache of ammunition and arrested two suspected terrorist logistics couriers in Kogi State, marking a significant development in ongoing efforts to disrupt supply chains sustaining armed groups across Nigeria’s central corridor. The operation, carried out under Operation MESA, took place in the early hours of April 20 along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja Local Government Area, a route increasingly identified by security agencies as a critical transit link for illicit movements.

Acting swiftly, troops of the 12 Brigade mounted a stop-and-search checkpoint at a location along the highway. At approximately 12:10 a.m., they intercepted a vehicle traveling from Makurdi toward Obajana. The vehicle’s movement pattern reportedly matched intelligence indicators linked to logistics couriers operating between states.
A detailed search of the vehicle led to the discovery of concealed ammunition. Security officials confirmed that 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines were hidden behind the driver’s seat. The concealment method suggests a deliberate attempt to evade routine security checks. In addition to the ammunition, troops recovered two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card. These items are now undergoing forensic examination to establish the identities of the suspects and trace potential links to wider networks.
The two suspects were immediately taken into custody and are currently undergoing interrogation. Investigators are working to determine their exact roles, the origin of the ammunition, and the intended recipients. The individual reportedly abandoned the supplies and fled, leaving behind a motorcycle. The destruction of the camp and interception of supplies were seen as part of a deliberate effort to weaken the operational sustainability of armed groups by cutting off essential resources.
