The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has claimed that its fighter jets destroyed a terrorist hideout in the Mandara Mountains along the Nigeria-Cameroon border, dealing what it described as a significant blow to insurgent networks operating in the North-East. In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the NAF said the air strike was conducted on April 27, 2026, under Operation HADIN KAI, targeting a known terrorist enclave at Guduf, a location it identified as a major hub for insurgent planning and logistics.

According to the statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the operation followed credible intelligence and confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The NAF claimed that ISR reports confirmed the presence of active terrorist elements within fortified structures and logistics hubs that were actively supporting insurgent activities in the mountainous region. “NAF air assets executed a coordinated operation that identified multiple terrorist structures and logistics hubs actively supporting insurgent activities within the area,” Ejodame said.

The Air Force further claimed that precision targeting was deployed to engage and neutralise hostile elements and their infrastructure, while maintaining strict adherence to rules of engagement and ensuring the protection of civilians and the surrounding environment. The statement said the strike destroyed key terrorist structures and logistics hubs in the enclave, thereby degrading the operational capacity of the affected insurgent network. The NAF did not provide independent verification of the number of casualties or the extent of the damage.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, was quoted as reaffirming the service’s resolve. “The Nigerian Air Force will sustain relentless, intelligence-driven air operations until terrorist elements are completely neutralised. We remain committed to the protection of our personnel, the security of our nation, and the safety of all citizens,” he said in the statement.

The Mandara Mountains, where the strike reportedly took place, are located along the north-eastern border of Nigeria and Cameroon. The area has long been used by insurgents as a hideout due to its difficult terrain and proximity to international borders. The NAF claimed that the operation significantly degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and reinforced ongoing efforts to deny them freedom of action across the theatre.

The strike is the latest in a series of air operations the NAF has claimed in recent weeks. On April 19, 2026, the NAF reported that airstrikes under Operation HADIN KAI eliminated several terrorist fighters concealed within the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest, destroying structures and logistics facilities. The NAF has maintained that sustained air operations continue to degrade terrorist networks, though independent confirmation of these claims remains difficult due to restricted access to the conflict zones.

The Air Force reiterated that the mission was carried out with strict adherence to rules of engagement and with attention to protecting civilians and the environment. Post-strike assessment, the NAF claimed, confirmed no further threats, while feedback from ground troops and local authorities indicated a significant degradation of terrorist presence and a return of relative calm in the area.
