Lagos, China Strengthen Cultural and Economic Ties Ahead of 72-Hour Weekend Experience

In a strategic push to deepen international relations, Lagos State’s Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, hosted a high-level Chinese delegation on Monday. The delegation was led by Mr. Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, alongside Ms. Yan Yuqing, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos.

During the visit, Mr. Aregbe highlighted the Lagos Cultural Mission Initiative, showcasing the potential of cultural partnerships to build global connections. He also invited the delegation to participate in the 72 Hours Lagos Weekend Experience, scheduled for November 14–16, 2025, emphasizing it as a platform for cultural collaboration and mutual growth.

The Special Adviser underlined the importance of Lagos and China’s large population bases as a driver for tourism, cultural integration, and economic opportunities. “We want China’s partnership with Lagos State in cultural exchange and training programmes that will benefit both young and old, ensuring mutual growth and enduring relationships,” he said.

The Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation through simplified visa processes, student and professional exchanges, and joint cultural initiatives. Mr. Zhang praised Lagos as a “powerhouse of human labour, economy, and creativity” and highlighted heritage protection, research, and educational exchanges as priority areas for collaboration.

Consul General Yan Yuqing reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Lagos and Nigeria, inviting Lagos representatives to visit Guangxi Province as part of a broader strategy to cement bilateral cooperation.
