Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has met with a delegation from Greenville CNG/LNG, led by its Chairman, Mr. Eddy van den Broeke, to fast-track the establishment of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) hub in the state.
The meeting, held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, was attended by Greenville’s Managing Director, Ritu Sahajwalla, and Chief Executive Officer, Mutiu Sommonu. Discussions centered on finalizing plans for a major energy infrastructure project designed to provide cleaner, safer, and more affordable fuel options for transportation and industrial purposes across Gombe and beyond.
Governor Yahaya confirmed that the state government has already allocated land and approved engineering designs for the project. “We are committed to leveraging natural gas to make transportation more affordable, reduce environmental pollution and stimulate industrial growth in our region,” he said.
Greenville Chairman, Mr. Eddy van den Broeke, noted that the absence of gas pipelines has long limited access to affordable clean energy in Northern Nigeria. He explained that the project will bridge this gap by trucking LNG from the South to Gombe, where it will be regasified and distributed as CNG.
The planned hub will host Liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) refill stations, while CNG-powered tricycles, conversion centres, and other innovations are set to form part of the state’s evolving transportation master plan. Officials revealed that Greenville plans to invest over $2 million in the project, with mobilization to site expected soon.
Once completed, the CNG hub will serve not only Gombe but the entire North-East and parts of the North-West, driving job creation, reducing costs, and promoting a cleaner environment.
