Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation, and digital solutions as key drivers of sustainable growth, inclusivity, and prosperity. Speaking at the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2025 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Governor emphasized Lagos’s pivotal role as Nigeria’s economic heartbeat and a leading innovation hub across Africa.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that GITEX Nigeria, the largest gathering of tech visionaries and decision-makers, provides an opportunity for global tech leaders such as IBM, Meta, MTN, AWS, and Cisco, alongside homegrown startups, to collaborate and showcase transformative technologies. The event, organized by the Lagos State Government in partnership with KAOUN International, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), aligns with the state’s vision to position Lagos as the pulse of Africa’s digital future.
“Today, as we explore the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference, we are doing more than just showcasing technology; we are building partnerships, sparking innovation, and laying the groundwork for Nigeria’s goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said. He added that Lagos embodies a vibrant innovation ecosystem, home to 23 of Nigeria’s fastest-growing companies, and urged attendees to embrace opportunities to connect, innovate, and shape a digital Africa that inspires the world.
The Governor also commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for advancing AI infrastructure and inclusive digital solutions, which are transforming Nigeria’s global digital positioning. Dr. Tijani noted the urgent need for resilient digital infrastructure in Lagos, which welcomes roughly 2,000 new residents daily, and highlighted upcoming government-backed initiatives, including a program launching on October 1 to support 75 additional research projects in the digital sector. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between startups, corporates, and government to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and ensure the country remains competitive in the global digital economy.
