N2.5b Donation to UBTH: Critics of Governor Okpebholo are Suffering from Verbal Diarrhea – Ohonbamu

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has dismissed criticisms from opposition figures, particularly PDP spokesman Chris Nehikhare, regarding Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent N2.5 billion donation to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), describing them as “verbal diarrhea.” Speaking in Benin City, Ohonbamu said the opposition’s attacks are careless attempts to discredit the governor’s commitment to improving public welfare.

The Commissioner noted that since Governor Okpebholo assumed office, his administration has embarked on unprecedented initiatives and developmental projects across Edo State, achievements that have drawn both admiration and criticism. According to Ohonbamu, detractors like Nehikhare have resorted to spreading unfounded claims in the public space, aiming to undermine the governor’s work while ignoring the broader benefits to Edo residents.

Ohonbamu emphasized that the criticisms stem from the governor’s insistence on due diligence, accountability, and prudent management of funds, which contrasts sharply with the practices of previous administrations. By directing the N2.5 billion donation toward constructing a world-class Pediatric Centre at UBTH, Governor Okpebholo has ensured that public funds directly impact the lives of Edo children, a move that some opposition elements have failed to appreciate.

“The attacks against the governor, including condemnation of the UBTH donation, are a result of envy and inability to match his performance,” Ohonbamu said, adding that the opposition’s attempts to discredit the administration will fail as the positive outcomes of the governor’s projects become increasingly visible.

The Commissioner concluded by asserting that the accomplishments of the Okpebholo administration, popularly known as “Okpakomiza,” continue to frustrate opposition actors, whose relevance is diminishing in the face of tangible development across the state.
