Absentee Teachers in Six Bayelsa Schools Face Disciplinary Action

Absentee teachers found missing from their duty posts in six secondary schools within the Okordia-Zarama-Biseni Yenagoa Education Zone have been summoned to the Bayelsa State Post Primary Schools Board (PPSB) headquarters to face disciplinary action. The directive followed an on-the-spot supervision exercise conducted on Monday, 1st September, 2025, by the Directors of PPSB, aimed at ensuring compliance and accountability among public school teachers.

During the inspection, the Directors visited Community Secondary Schools in Tein-Biseni, Egbebiri-Biseni, Ikarama, Okordia, Okordia-North, and Zarama, cross-checking attendance registers and duty rosters to verify teachers’ presence. Those found absent without leave or prior permission were promptly summoned to respond to queries at the board headquarters in Yenagoa.

The PPSB Directors instructed the principals of the schools to formally issue queries to absentee teachers and mandated that responses be submitted to the Board for appropriate sanctions if culpability is established. The supervision exercise forms part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to enforce daily monitoring and ensure that public schools deliver optimal educational outcomes, a key initiative championed by the Prosperity Government of Governor Senator Douye Diri.

Officials leading the supervision included Dr. Suokiri Helen, Director of Quality Assurance/Supervision; Mr. Princewill Osobirigo, Director of General Duties; Mrs. Inikurogha Tonyo Omiekuma, Director of Planning, Research & Statistics; Mrs. Olu-Silas Mary Martha, Director of Projects; Mr. Torukuru Sinizibe, Director of Sports; Chief Tobin Tubonah, Director of Science; and Barr. Ernest Samuel Odusi, Director of Educational Services. Their joint effort underscores the state government’s commitment to maintaining discipline, accountability, and high standards in the education sector.
