
The First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Bisi Oyebanji, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Mrs. Modupe Alasin of Efon Alaaye, allegedly killed by her husband after a domestic dispute. In a statement on X, the First Lady described the act as a “painful reminder of the urgent need to end all forms of gender-based violence” in society.
Dr. Oyebanji directed the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Management Committee to intensify preventive measures, strengthen support services for survivors, and expand sensitization campaigns across all communities. She also called on the Ekiti State Police Command to ensure swift and impartial justice, emphasizing that “Ekiti State will never tolerate violence in any form.”
The First Lady urged women and girls who feel unsafe to speak up, reminding them that help is available, and appealed to the public to report abuse and stand united against gender-based violence.
