The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a man identified as Taye, who went into hiding following the alleged killing and burial of his 13-year-old daughter, Davina, has voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on September 7, 2027, after which Taye and members of his family fled the scene. He later reported himself at the Ebrumede Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area. His wife had already been arrested in connection with the matter.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development via a WhatsApp message to journalists in Warri. He noted that investigations are ongoing and stressed that the cause of the child’s death will only be confirmed after an autopsy. “We can’t say he killed her for now till after autopsy is carried out,” Edafe said.

Community sources allege that Davina was born to Taye’s former partner, Miss Dorcas, while Taye is married to another woman. It was reported that the father had requested Davina visit him for the holidays, and the child’s mother agreed, hoping for father-daughter bonding.

According to sources, Davina reportedly attempted to contact her mother to be taken away from her father’s house due to emotional stress, but her calls were intercepted. On the day of the incident, September 7, the child’s mother was informed that Davina was about to be buried. She rushed to the family compound but was reportedly beaten and shown the burial site of her daughter without explanation.

Taye’s wife, who had left the house a week prior, told police she was unaware of what happened to Davina and claimed the child was fine before she left. Community members, civil rights activists, and residents are calling for a thorough investigation to ensure justice and clarify the circumstances surrounding Davina’s death.

Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish the facts of the case, including potential culpability of both Taye and his wife.
