Yola, Adamawa State — The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola Operations Office, has presented a Commendation and Award of Excellence to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 153 Base Services Group, Yola, in recognition of its exceptional humanitarian service, professionalism, and unwavering partnership in disaster response and community support across Adamawa State.

NEMA described the Base as a pillar of hope and resilience, lauding its “uncommon dedication and selfless commitment” to saving lives and supporting communities in times of crisis. The Agency highlighted the Base’s pivotal role since 2014, notably during the Boko Haram insurgency, when it provided medical aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs), and more recently, during the July 2025 flood disaster in Yola South.

During the devastating flood, NAF personnel, vehicles, and medical teams were swiftly deployed to rescue victims, evacuate stranded residents, deliver emergency relief materials, and maintain security and logistics coordination throughout the operation.

Speaking during the award presentation, Mr. Ladan Ayuba, Head of Operations, NEMA Yola Office, praised the Base for its sustained humanitarian efforts — from providing rescue transport and potable water to IDP camps to ensuring security during relief distributions and assisting displaced persons in safely returning home.

“The Nigerian Air Force 153 Base Services Group has consistently demonstrated courage, compassion, and commitment to the people of Adamawa. Their partnership embodies the true essence of inter-agency cooperation and national service,” Ayuba said.

NEMA further commended the Air Force’s discipline, professionalism, and compassion, describing the Base’s actions as a model of how military institutions can drive humanitarian impact and national development.

The recognition aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, whose leadership emphasizes a people-centred and development-oriented Air Force.

Receiving the award, the Commander, 153 Base Services Group, Group Captain Mu’azu Mohammed Mu’azu, expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Air Staff for his visionary direction and to the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, for his mentorship and consistent support.

“This award belongs to every officer and airman who continues to serve with courage and compassion. We dedicate it to the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force, whose guidance inspires our commitment to humanitarian excellence,” Group Captain Mu’azu said.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s readiness to continue protecting lives, supporting vulnerable communities, and partnering with civil authorities to strengthen peace, safety, and national resilience.

“Our mission goes beyond defending the skies — it is about defending the people,” he added.
