The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert to the Nigerian Army regarding a purported plan by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISIS-WA) to carry out coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi states.
Officials say the intelligence, which was shared with military authorities, indicates that the extremist group is targeting multiple locations with the aim of spreading fear and destabilizing the affected regions. The DSS has urged the Army to heighten surveillance, increase patrols, and take proactive measures to prevent any potential attacks.
Security agencies are reportedly collaborating with local authorities to reinforce checkpoints, monitor suspicious activities, and protect vulnerable communities in the two states. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual movements or gatherings to security personnel.
The DSS emphasized that such preemptive intelligence sharing is critical in preventing attacks and safeguarding lives, noting that swift coordination between intelligence and military agencies is essential in counterterrorism operations.
