The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the assumption of office of Deputy Commander of the Commission (DCE) Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad as the new Acting Zonal Director of its Benin Zonal Directorate.

DCE Sa’ad officially took over the leadership of the zone on Friday, October 24, 2025, succeeding Assistant Commander of the Commission (ACE I) Effa Okim, who has been redeployed to the Makurdi Zonal Directorate.

A seasoned anti-corruption officer with vast experience in the investigation and prosecution of economic and financial crimes, Sa’ad brings to his new role years of proven dedication to the Commission’s mission. Before his current posting, he served as Acting Zonal Director, Kano Directorate, and had previously headed the Gombe and Sokoto Zonal Directorates as Head of Legal and Prosecution Departments.

During the handover ceremony, DCE Sa’ad pledged to build on the successes recorded by his predecessor and ensure that the Benin Zonal Directorate continues to uphold the EFCC’s standards of integrity, excellence, and discipline.

“I work by the books, and we are guided by that as staff of the Commission,” Sa’ad stated. “We will work together as a team to build on what has been achieved — and, God willing, we shall double it.”

He further emphasized zero tolerance for corruption, urging all staff members to adhere strictly to the EFCC Staff Regulations and uphold the Commission’s core values of professionalism, courage, and integrity.

“The Executive Chairman has done so much for us as staff, so we should reciprocate that by giving him good results,” he added.

DCE Sa’ad is an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and has participated in several international anti-corruption and law enforcement training programmes. He is also a fellow of the Security Institute and a member of several professional bodies.

With his appointment, stakeholders and staff of the EFCC Benin Zonal Directorate are optimistic about renewed commitment and strengthened efforts in the fight against corruption across the region.
