Former Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and General Manager of the State Housing and Property Development Authority, Rt. Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, PhD, has formally resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the lingering internal crisis within the party as his reason for departure.

Isenah, who submitted his resignation letter to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman in Odi, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, described the decision as a difficult but necessary step given the state of the party.

Despite his exit, the former Speaker reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty and support to Governor Douye Diri, commending the Bayelsa State Governor for his leadership style and commitment to the peace, progress, and development of the state.

“I remain grateful to the PDP for the opportunity it gave me to serve my people in various capacities over the years,” Isenah stated, expressing appreciation for the platform that shaped much of his political career.

Later the same day, Isenah met with members of his political family at the Odi Chapter, where his supporters unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Douye Diri and pledged their continued support for Isenah’s political direction going forward.

The former Speaker’s resignation marks a significant shift within the Bayelsa political landscape, as observers watch closely to see what his next political move might be in the months ahead.
