Fresh information has emerged indicating that Nigeria’s outgoing Service Chiefs are set to receive a lavish retirement package that includes bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), Toyota Prado Jeeps, and $60,000 for medical expenses, according to leaked internal documents.

The revelation, which has sparked public debate, suggests that the retiring military top brass will also be entitled to additional post-service benefits, including domestic aides, personal security, and access to official accommodation for a transition period.

While the Federal Government has not officially confirmed the details, sources within the Ministry of Defence reportedly disclosed that the benefits were “part of the approved entitlements for senior officers who have served as Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff.”

Critics have described the package as extravagant amid Nigeria’s economic challenges and mounting public debt. Civil society groups are calling for greater transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, arguing that such benefits are “disproportionate and insensitive” given the nation’s fiscal struggles.

As public pressure mounts, analysts say the development could reignite calls for a review of remuneration policies for public office holders, especially in the security sector where morale and welfare among lower-ranking officers remain major concerns.

So far, neither the Defence Headquarters nor the Office of the National Security Adviser has issued an official statement on the leaked information.
