Senior Pastor of Power City International, Dr. Abel Damina, has sparked reactions after declaring that the practice of making people “fall under the anointing” during church services is fake and manipulative.
Speaking during a recent sermon, Pastor Damina admitted that he once engaged in the act, but later stopped after realizing that it had no biblical foundation and was often used to impress or deceive congregations.
He stated, “Those falling under the so-called anointing are only reacting to psychological pressure and crowd manipulation. I used to do it myself until I studied the Scriptures carefully and discovered that it’s not the power of God making them fall — it’s simply performance.”
The cleric explained that true spiritual encounters produce transformation and repentance, not theatrical displays meant to entertain or validate a preacher’s “spiritual power.”
He added that many ministers now prioritize emotional spectacle over sound doctrine, leading many believers astray. “God’s power is not in physical drama but in the Word that renews the mind,” he emphasized.
Pastor Damina’s statement has since generated heated debate among Christians across social media, with some applauding his honesty and others accusing him of discrediting long-standing Pentecostal practices.
