The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Port Command (TCIPC), has intercepted a massive shipment of illicit drugs hidden inside imported vehicles, with an estimated Duty Paid Value of ₦5.304 billion.
Speaking at a press briefing, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller, disclosed that two 40-foot containers from Montreal, Canada were seized following credible intelligence and coordinated operations with other security agencies. The haul included 156 packets of Colorado Indica weighing 78kg, 1.2kg of Hashish Oil, 2,081 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 1,093kg, and 8 packages of Crystal Meth totaling 8kg, all concealed within eight vehicles.
Comptroller Onyeka warned that drug smuggling threatens national security, public health, and the economy, stressing that the Tincan Island Port Command would continue to employ intelligence, technology, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
He praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and sister agencies including the NDLEA, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigerian Navy for their ongoing support and collaboration. The seized drugs were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), whose Tincan Strategic Commander, Daniel Onyishi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to investigating and disposing of seized substances according to legal procedures.
