South African Air Force Chief Visits Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Makurdi

The Chief of the South African Air Force (SAAF), Lieutenant General Wiseman Simo Mbambo, paid an official visit to the Headquarters Tactical Air Command (TAC) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Makurdi on 28 October 2025. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance professional cooperation, and exchange operational experiences between the two Air Forces.

Lieutenant General Mbambo, accompanied by the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa, was received by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, along with other senior officers of the Command.

During the visit, the South African delegation was briefed on the Command’s structure, roles, and contributions to defending Nigeria’s airspace, with emphasis on air surveillance, radar coverage, and support for internal security operations. A static and aerial display at the 131 Engineering Group highlighted the technical expertise, maintenance capabilities, and operational precision of NAF personnel.

Lieutenant General Mbambo commended the Nigerian Air Force, stating:

“The Nigerian Air Force has demonstrated remarkable professionalism and growth, reflecting Africa’s capacity to develop its own airpower solutions. Collaboration between our Air Forces is vital to building a safer and more secure continent.”

In response, Air Vice Marshal Obeya described the visit as “a symbol of unity and professional solidarity between two leading Air Forces on the African continent.” He added that the engagement strengthens shared values of service, discipline, and continuous improvement, and opens avenues for joint training, indigenous technological development, and operational synergy to address evolving security challenges across Africa.

The visit underscores the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Nigeria and South Africa, reflecting a shared vision for peace, progress, and collective security across the continent.
