The Edo State Police Command has reacted to reports alleging that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were involved in an operation that led to the tragic killing of 16-year-old Emmanuel Monday George in Okpuje, Uzeba community, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

In a prompt and empathetic response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, personally led a delegation to Uzeba community on October 28, 2025, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), DCP Isah Lawal, to assess the situation and engage directly with residents.

During the visit, CP Agbonika paid a condolence visit to the bereaved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monday George, expressing heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Edo State Command. He reassured the family that justice would be served, stressing that the police have taken over the investigation and will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the incident.

Addressing community leaders and youths, the Commissioner appealed for calm, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace while investigations proceed, assuring them that the case will be handled impartially and transparently.

As part of his visit, CP Agbonika also met two survivors of the incident — God’spower Omage (20) and Ajayi Irobia (54) — who are currently receiving treatment at Godswill Memorial Nursing Centre, Uzeba. He extended the Command’s support and pledged to ensure they receive justice. The CP further inspected the mortuary where Emmanuel’s remains were kept, arranging for an autopsy and proper documentation as part of the official investigation.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Benin City, has been tasked with leading the probe. The Command promised to keep the public informed as credible findings emerge.

In a statement signed by ASP Eno Ikoedem, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), the Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property across Edo State.

Residents are encouraged to reach the Command through its emergency numbers 08077773721 and 08037646272, or report complaints via the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 08100389992.
