Activist Aisha Yesufu has urged Nigerians to redirect internal disputes and activism toward holding the federal government accountable for ongoing killings across the country. Yesufu reminded citizens that Nigeria was first designated by the United States as a “Country of Particular Concern” in December 2020, and argued that the energy spent fighting among themselves would be better used to pressure authorities to stop the violence.
In a social media post, Yesufu said Nigerians should focus on demanding action from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom she described as illegitimate, insisting that persistent domestic pressure is the path to ending the bloodshed. “All this energy you are using to fight yourselves, use it to hold Tinubu’s illegitimate government accountable to stop the killings in Nigeria,” she wrote.
Yesufu’s comments come amid heightened national debate over security, human rights, and the international spotlight on Nigeria’s handling of communal and targeted violence. Her intervention echoes calls from civil society groups and rights campaigners who have repeatedly demanded more decisive government action to protect citizens and prosecute perpetrators.
Observers say Yesufu’s message is likely to resonate with many Nigerians frustrated by insecurity and perceived government inaction, and could contribute to renewed civic mobilisation demanding transparency, accountability, and concrete security reforms.
