In a successful counter–kidnapping operation, troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered the sum of ₦3.8 million intended as ransom payment in Kogi State.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, the operation was carried out on 2 November 2025, following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis.

Troops reportedly received information that relatives of abducted persons were attempting to deliver ransom to secure their release. Acting swiftly, the soldiers launched a patrol towards Achigili Forest, where they encountered the kidnappers.

“While en route to the location, the troops came under fire from the criminals,” the statement read. “In the ensuing exchange, the gallant soldiers engaged the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon two victims along with the ransom money.”

The fleeing kidnappers were said to have escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds, while the rescued victims were safely recovered and ₦3,800,000 in cash was retrieved. The victims have since been debriefed and are under protection pending handover to the appropriate authorities.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Kogi State and the nation, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
