The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing rising security concerns following reports of alleged U.S. military operations in West Africa.
According to intelligence reports published by Zagazola, the directive was issued by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who ordered a full military lockdown along the Nigerian border after security agencies intercepted intelligence suggesting that terrorist elements in northern Nigeria were attempting to flee into Chadian territory.
Military sources in N’Djamena confirmed that the Chadian Armed Forces have been placed on maximum alert, with troops and armoured vehicles deployed across key entry points connecting both nations.
President Déby, in a firm statement, declared that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise.” The move comes amid mounting regional tension and widespread speculation over alleged U.S. military deployments in certain West African states.
Security analysts have described the closure as a preventive security measure designed to safeguard Chadian sovereignty and prevent infiltration by insurgent groups exploiting instability across the Sahel.
The Nigerian government has yet to officially respond to Chad’s announcement, but diplomatic observers warn that the border closure could disrupt regional trade and humanitarian operations in border communities.
