Lagos, November 5, 2025 — In a major victory for the rule of law, the Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Kakaki, has granted an interim injunction restraining the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Nigeria Police Force from enforcing or acting upon their “wanted” declaration against activist Omoyele Sowore.

The court’s order also bars the respondents from declaring Sowore wanted again, threatening him with arrest, or taking any further steps on the alleged declaration pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion scheduled for November 14, 2025.

The ruling followed an ex parte motion filed and moved by Sowore’s legal counsel, Tope Temokun, seeking immediate judicial protection for the activist’s constitutional rights, after the Lagos Commissioner of Police publicly declared Sowore “wanted” without any lawful order or warrant of arrest.

Reacting to the ruling, Temokun described it as “a victory for the rule of law and a bold reminder that state power must operate within constitutional limits.”

He added:

“This order stands as a loud statement that despite the seeds of anarchy sown daily by those who are supposed to protect the law, the law still breathes in this country. No citizen can be stripped of liberty or dignity through arbitrary police action if we stand firm in challenging every abuse of power.”

The court’s decision has been widely hailed as a landmark affirmation of judicial independence and citizens’ constitutional rights against executive overreach.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of SaharaReporters, has long been a vocal critic of government policies and police misconduct. The interim injunction now shields him from further harassment pending full legal determination.
