Efforts by Nigerian sports officials to mobilize over 200 passionate football fans to Morocco in support of the national team have reportedly been aborted, according to a report by Blueprint Newspaper.
The plan, which was aimed at boosting morale for the crucial encounter between Nigeria and Gabon, hit a major snag due to visa complications. Sources within the sports ministry disclosed that despite early preparations, several applicants were unable to secure the necessary travel documents in time for departure.
According to Blueprint’s findings, the Nigerian Embassy in Morocco has been overwhelmed with processing demands, resulting in significant delays that affected travel arrangements for the supporters.
An insider who spoke under anonymity said, “The intention was to create a strong Nigerian presence in the stadium, but the visa process slowed everything down. Many fans had already made partial travel commitments before realizing they couldn’t proceed.”
The development has drawn mixed reactions from football lovers who believe that fan support plays a crucial role in boosting team spirit, especially during away fixtures.
Sports analysts, however, maintain that while the absence of the cheering squad may be disappointing, the players must remain focused on securing victory despite the setback.
As of press time, efforts were still ongoing by Nigerian sports authorities to engage with Moroccan officials for possible resolution, though chances of deploying fans before kickoff appear slim.
