The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Oke, has condemned what he described as the growing attempt to deny or downplay the killings of Christians in Nigeria, warning that doing so dishonours the memory of those who have lost their lives to religious violence.
Speaking to journalists in Ibadan on Friday, Oke said every honest observer of Nigeria’s security situation can see that Christians and churches have come under sustained attacks in various parts of the country. He described the killings as a clear case of persecution and “a genocide against the church.”
> “To every honest Nigerian, there is no controversy about whether there is genocide against the church and Christians in Nigeria,” he said.
The PFN president lamented that some public figures and institutions often try to frame the killings as mere communal clashes or banditry, insisting that such explanations “desecrate the blood of innocent Nigerians” who were targeted because of their faith.
> “It would be a desecration to the blood of these Nigerians to call it any other name. There is not a single instance of a Christian group attacking Muslims. It is always the other way round,” Oke said.
Bishop Oke’s remarks come amid continued reports of attacks on worship centres and Christian communities in parts of the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria.
The cleric called for honesty, justice, and decisive action from the government, stressing that until Nigeria acknowledges the religious dimensions of the violence, true peace and national unity will remain elusive.
His statement adds to growing concerns among Christian leaders that the Nigerian state has failed to protect vulnerable communities and to confront the religious intolerance fueling the violence.
