Three senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC), seeking sanctions against Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court over what they describe as judicial misconduct.
The PDP chieftains — Austin Nwachukwu, Amah Nnanna, and Turnah George — allege that Justice Akintola engaged in judicial indiscretion and abuse of office through his handling of a case related to the party’s upcoming national elective convention.
The trio are plaintiffs in a matter before the Federal High Court in Abuja (suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025). The Federal High Court had previously restrained the PDP from holding its planned national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The petition highlights an alleged “contradictory order” issued by Justice Akintola concerning the same convention, raising concerns over conflicting judicial decisions that could impact the party’s electoral process.
The PDP chieftains are urging the NJC to intervene and ensure judicial accountability, stressing that the integrity of the judiciary must be upheld to maintain public confidence in the legal system.
This development adds a new layer of tension as the PDP prepares for its national elective convention, with legal disputes threatening to overshadow the party’s organizational activities.
