ASABA, DELTA STATE — The Delta State Government has launched the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system as part of a new initiative to strengthen traffic management, improve road safety, and enhance security surveillance across the state.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, said the innovation is aimed at reducing traffic violations, curbing crime, and minimizing physical confrontations between motorists and traffic enforcement officers.

According to the Commissioner, the ANPR system will automatically identify and capture vehicle number plates, making it easier for authorities to track vehicles involved in illegal or suspicious activities without the need for manual checks.

Agofure emphasized that the safety of Deltans remains a top priority for the state government, adding that the initiative demonstrates the administration’s commitment to modernizing its transport system and ensuring safer roads.

He noted that the Ministry of Transport is working in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, and other relevant agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the system and full compliance by motorists.

“The safety of Deltans remains a top priority, which is why we are working closely with the FRSC, the Board of Internal Revenue, and other agencies to ensure compliance and safer roads,” Hon. Onoriode Agofure said.

The ANPR initiative, he added, is expected to enhance law enforcement efficiency, promote accountability among motorists, and make Delta’s roads more secure and orderly.
