The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), led the Nigerian delegation at the opening of the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN 2025), alongside the Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo. The delegation represented Nigeria in discussions aimed at advancing the country’s aviation interests on the global stage.
The event provides a platform for countries to negotiate air service agreements, share knowledge, and promote cooperation among international aviation stakeholders. For Nigeria, participation in ICAN 2025 is expected to yield significant benefits. By strengthening bilateral and multilateral air service agreements, the country can open new routes for Nigerian carriers, attract foreign airlines, and boost passenger traffic and revenue.
Additionally, active engagement at ICAO allows Nigeria to advocate for favorable regulations, safety standards, and operational policies that enhance the competitiveness and growth of the nation’s aviation sector. The event also offers opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing, enabling the adoption of best practices, technological transfer, and capacity building to improve safety, efficiency, and service quality in Nigerian aviation.
The presence of Nigeria’s top aviation officials at ICAN 2025 underscores the government’s commitment to positioning the country as a leading hub for air transport in Africa.
