Panic has gripped the Federal Civil Service following the abduction of six Directors of the Federal Ministry of Defence by suspected gunmen along the Kaba–Lokoja highway, a major route in Kogi State. The senior officials, all serving under the Federal Civil Service, were reportedly taken by unknown assailants under circumstances that remain unclear. While exact details about the timing of the abduction have not been confirmed, sources describe the incident as “alarming” and “deeply concerning.”

Security agencies have immediately launched investigations and intensified search operations for the abducted officers. The incident has sent shockwaves through the civil service, highlighting the ongoing security challenges along major highways in Nigeria.

This latest attack is not an isolated case. Earlier this year, a senior staff member of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) was kidnapped along the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding a ₦30 million ransom. In June, the Kogi State Police Command foiled two kidnapping attempts on the Lokoja–Kabba road, rescuing 23 passengers, though one person was killed and six others injured. In July, nine passengers were abducted while travelling near Karara community along the Lokoja–Abuja highway, but the vehicle was later recovered. In September, gunmen killed a bystander and abducted three passengers on the Okene–Lokoja road, while troops of the Nigerian Army successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims from bandits along the Obajana–Lokoja road.

The recurrence of such violent incidents underscores the persistent insecurity along key highways in Kogi State, affecting both civilians and federal officials. Authorities have called for increased vigilance and stronger security measures to protect commuters and public servants traveling these critical routes.
