Kebbi State, Nigeria — Fresh terror has struck in Ngaski Local Government Area, where bandits attacked Makirin community in a brutal raid, killing and abducting several residents. The attack forced terrified survivors to seek refuge in Yauri town, arriving this morning in search of safety.
This is not an isolated incident: 2025 has seen a troubling rise in violent bandit attacks across Kebbi State. In June, assailants struck Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area, killing scores of people, abducting residents, and rustling cattle. According to the state government, at least 30 people died in that attack.
In response to the threat, Governor Nasiru Idris has moved swiftly — establishing a planned army operational base in the Zuru Emirate to bolster regional security. Authorities are also considering tough legal measures: new legislation could impose the death penalty or life imprisonment for individuals acting as informants to bandits.
Meanwhile, troops have launched operations to counter the rising danger. In late October, military forces reportedly neutralised at least 80 armed bandits in Ngaski LGA following coordinated deployments to vulnerable border areas.
The spate of attacks has reignited urgent calls for full government attention to protect communities under siege and restore a sense of security in Nigeria’s north-west region.
