Residents of Benue State continue to face deadly attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen, forcing many to abandon their homes and seek refuge in neighboring states. Citizens lament:

“We lived in a country that doesn't care about the lives of its citizens.”

Many also criticized the government for favoritism:

“A country that gives preferential treatment to some group of people at the expense of others.”

Daily killings have created widespread fear, with locals reporting:

“We the Benue citizens are being killed on a daily basis by Fulani terrorist, the government that is supposed to protect lives and property pretend as if nothing is happening.”

Communities across Katsina Local Government Area, including Mbatyula, Mbayongo, Mbavuugh, and Mbajir wards, have been displaced by the attacks. Many of these residents fled to Amadu in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State in search of safety.

“These people left their land for the armed Fulani herdsman and ran to Amadu Takum local government of Taraba state for their safety.”

Even those seeking refuge are not safe. Last night, Amadu came under attack, leaving residents devastated:

“Just last night, Amadu was under attack and many were so devastated with no where to go.”

Recent incidents highlight the growing insecurity across Benue. On 7 November 2025, suspected herdsmen ambushed passengers and motorists on the Makurdi–Lafia highway near Kardako, blocking the road and causing panic. Earlier in the month, a former councillor of Tombo Ward was killed, and a rice farm in Gwer West LGA was set ablaze. Four people were killed in Anwule, Ohimini LGA, and a barber named Thomas Edeh was murdered while farming in Rijo, Ado LGA.

The violence has had a measurable impact on agriculture. A recent study covering several local government areas, including Guma and Kwande, revealed that attacks by herdsmen have significantly reduced farming and livestock output, threatening livelihoods and food security.

The ongoing attacks underscore the failure of authorities to protect citizens and their property, leaving communities vulnerable and forcing mass displacement. Security experts warn that without urgent intervention, both lives and livelihoods in Benue remain at grave risk.
