In a major breakthrough for security in Anambra State, police authorities, working closely with local community security groups, have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of committing serious crimes in Aguata. The suspect, identified as Chigbo Umeugokwe from Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, was apprehended on November 11, 2025, and is now set to face trial in court on November 19, 2025.
According to police reports, the suspect reportedly stormed a local shop in the community on October 29, armed with a homemade single-barrel gun and a small axe. During the attack, he wore a red polo shirt that he fashioned into a face mask. He allegedly stole ₦30,000 from the shop and abducted a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect took the girl to a nearby bush, where he forcefully committed an act of sexual assault. The community and police worked together, leading to his swift arrest and the recovery of crucial evidence, including the gun, the axe, and the shirt used as a mask.
During police questioning, Umeugokwe voluntarily admitted to his involvement in the crimes. The police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and holding offenders accountable.
The police spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and security, saying, “This arrest shows that together, we can make our communities safer.”
The suspect's court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025. The police hope this case will serve as a reminder that criminal activities will not go unpunished in Anambra.
