President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to suspend further legislative action on the Cocoa Management Board Establishment Bill 2025 to allow for broader consultations.

The president’s request was conveyed in a letter dated November 12 and read on the Senate floor on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, Tinubu referenced the bill earlier transmitted to the upper chamber, noting that pausing deliberations would create room for additional stakeholder engagement.

> “I write to refer to the Cocoa Management Board Establishment Bill 2025 earlier transmitted to the Senate and to request the distinguished Senate President and distinguished senators to kindly stand down the legislative actions on the bill. This is to enable further consultations,” the letter stated.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish a regulatory board for cocoa production and marketing, a move that has generated debate among industry stakeholders and policymakers.

The Senate is expected to await further directives from the executive after the conclusion of the consultations.
