On November 17, 2025, Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi, Commander of the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, led a series of courtesy visits to key security agencies in Lagos State. The aim was to foster better collaboration among different security forces to enhance the safety and security of Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub.

During his visits, Brigadier General Owolabi met with the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command and Theatre Commander of Southwest Operation AWATSE, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha. He briefed him on his new role and expressed his commitment to working closely with the Navy to protect critical oil installations within Lagos.

Rear Admiral Mustapha responded positively, recalling they had previously worked together and expressing confidence that the partnership would lead to success in Operation AWATSE. He emphasized the importance of aligning their efforts to secure Lagos, which he described as Nigeria’s economic gateway.

At the Headquarters of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A Nigeria Customs Service and the Police Headquarters in Ikeja, Brigadier General Owolabi reaffirmed his goal of familiarizing himself with key security stakeholders. He called for cooperation and synergy among all agencies, assuring them of his full support whenever needed.

Comptroller Muhammed Shuaibu of FOU Zone A expressed appreciation for the support from 9 Brigade, especially during joint border patrols. He also expressed hope that the good working relationship would continue and be strengthened under the new Brigade Commander. He described 9 Brigade as a family and urged them to see FOU Zone A as part of their own.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Commissioner Olahundare Jimoh highlighted that police and military forces operate in a civil environment with different mandates, but both share the ultimate goal of ensuring peace and safety in Lagos. He also noted that interagency rivalry among junior personnel has diminished, paving the way for stronger cooperation and esprit de corps.

The visits included inspections of quarter guards, group photographs, and the signing of visitors’ books, among other activities.
