The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the circulation of Bledine Infant Cereals, manufactured by the French multinational Danone Group, following a ban by Chadian authorities.
The prohibition comes after the products were found non-compliant with European standards for Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) content, a potent carcinogen known to compromise the immune system and pose serious health risks, particularly to infants and young children.
According to NAFDAC, the affected Bledine products are circulating in Nigeria, especially in communities bordering Chad, raising urgent public health concerns. The agency warned that the use of these cereals could expose children to severe immune system disorders.
Healthcare providers and consumers are urged to report any adverse reactions related to the product to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s e-reporting platform on nafdac.gov.ng.
NAFDAC’s alert underscores the need for heightened vigilance on imported foods and serves as a reminder for parents and caregivers to verify the safety of infant products.
