President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to attend two major international summits: the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola. The reason for the delay is to focus on urgent security issues in Nigeria.
The President wants more briefings on two critical cases: the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and an attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State. Due to these serious security threats, he decided to stay in Nigeria and not travel at this time.
In response to a request from the governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu ordered more security forces to be sent to Eruku and the nearby Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. He also instructed the police to chase and arrest the bandits responsible for attacking the church worshippers.
President Tinubu was scheduled to leave Abuja today to attend the G20 and AU-EU Summits, but he has now suspended his departure until he receives more updates. He is waiting for reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and security agencies about the attack in Kwara.
The President has also repeated his order to security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls and bring them back safely.
This announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on November 19, 2025.
