Abuja, Nigeria – November 18, 2025: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Archbishop Angel Oyeghe, founder of Faith Healing Ministry in Warri, Delta State, over allegations of conspiracy, naira mutilation, and suspected money laundering.
The arrest followed a viral video showing several individuals under her supervision spraying naira notes on a live cow during a church service. The EFCC says the act contravenes Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which prohibits mutilation or improper use of the national currency.
EFCC operatives confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that other suspects linked to the incident are being pursued. Archbishop Oyeghe has provided statements to investigators and will be formally charged once the inquiry concludes.
The case has drawn public attention, highlighting concerns over the misuse of the national currency and the legal consequences of such acts.
Key Issue: The incident underscores the enforcement of financial and legal regulations, emphasizing that religious authority does not exempt individuals from compliance with Nigerian law.
This arrest serves as a reminder that currency mutilation and financial improprieties are serious offenses with criminal implications in Nigeria.
