The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has raised serious concerns about the slow progress of the new Judges’ quarter and Court of Appeal complex in Daki Biyu, Jabi, Abuja. During an inspection visit to the site, Wike warned that the contractor responsible for building the project may not meet the new deadline set for December.

Wike explained that although some work has been done, the finishing touches are behind schedule. Originally, the contractor had promised to complete the project by September, but setbacks led to a request for an extension until December. Now, Wike said, based on his observations, the project might not be finished until January next year, which is later than expected.

While acknowledging that some sections of the project look good, the minister emphasized that the overall progress is below the standard required for a project of such national importance. He stressed that the completion of this complex is crucial for Nigeria’s justice system, as it will provide better facilities for judges and improve the overall efficiency of the judiciary.

Wike reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary by investing in infrastructure and the welfare of judicial officers. He explained that creating a comfortable and secure environment for judges is essential for boosting public confidence and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.

The ongoing inspection is part of the FCT Administration’s broader efforts to ensure that key projects across the territory are completed on time. Wike’s visit highlights the government’s focus on accountability and delivering infrastructure that will serve the nation’s justice system for years to come.
