Chief Malcolm Omirhobo, a respected human rights lawyer and advocate, has strongly condemned Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State for claiming that there is no ethnic or racial genocide happening in the state. Omirhobo described the governor’s statement as false, shocking, and highly irresponsible.

He emphasized that such a claim is deeply insulting to the thousands of innocent men, women, and children who have been massacred in Benue over the years. The state has witnessed some of the worst mass killings in Nigeria’s recent history, with entire villages wiped out, communities displaced, farmlands destroyed, and families living in perpetual fear.

Omirhobo made it clear that these atrocities are real and happened on Benue soil, affecting genuine victims—not just in the governor’s imagination. He criticized Alia for denying the suffering of Benue’s people, suggesting that the governor is either out of touch with reality or deliberately choosing political convenience over truth and justice.

He called on Nigerian leaders to acknowledge the suffering of their citizens, demand accountability from those responsible for violence, and confront terrorism head-on. Omirhobo warned that sanitizing or denying atrocities only emboldens those carrying out violence and prolongs suffering.

The human rights lawyer urged Governor Alia to retract his reckless statement and speak the truth. He warned that silence and denial can only deepen the wounds and empower the killers, further destabilizing the region.
