The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has raised serious concerns about why the military withdrew from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, just before bandits abducted several students.

Governor Idris spoke on Friday in Birnin Kebbi during a visit by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, who came to show support for the state.

He explained that the government had received intelligence about a possible attack and quickly called a security meeting. The security agencies assured the government that everything was under control and that soldiers would be sent to the school.

Initially, troops were deployed at the school, but they unexpectedly withdrew around 3 a.m. The abduction happened shortly after, at about 3:45 a.m., just after the soldiers left.

The governor questioned who gave the order for the soldiers to withdraw. He asked, “Who authorized the military to withdraw? How did security personnel pull out at such a critical time?”

Governor Idris said both the state and federal governments are working hard to find the missing students and bring them back safely. He called for a full investigation into why the soldiers left their posts before the abduction.
