The Lagos State Government has charged newly trained young agripreneurs to take the lead in transforming the agricultural sector as the State intensifies efforts to boost food security and expand opportunities in agro-business.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, Mr. Emmanuel Audu, delivered the message during the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP) at the Farm Service and Entrepreneurial Centre in Agege. The event marked the completion of intensive training designed to equip participants with practical, modern agricultural skills.
Mr. Audu urged the graduates to immediately put their training into action, noting that their role is crucial to the State’s broader agricultural transformation plan. He emphasized that Lagos is counting on a new generation of agripreneurs to stimulate innovation, expand local production, and reduce dependence on external food sources.
He highlighted that the government’s commitment to agriculture is part of the A Greater Lagos Rising agenda, which prioritizes empowering youths, strengthening the food value chain, and building a sustainable food system capable of supporting the State’s growing population.
The Permanent Secretary encouraged the graduates to become active contributors to the State’s food security efforts and to leverage the opportunities created by the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme to build successful enterprises.
The LAP initiative continues to be one of Lagos State’s flagship programmes aimed at raising a skilled workforce of modern farmers who can adapt to the evolving demands of food production and agro-innovation.
