In a dramatic overnight operation, security forces in Zamfara State rescued 25 abducted women and children after armed bandits stormed Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area.
The attackers struck around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, unleashing fear and confusion as they seized 10 women and 15 children before fleeing into the surrounding forest.
According to reports, the alarm raised by residents prompted a rapid and coordinated response from operatives of the Zamfara Police Command, who worked closely with Community Protection Guards. The joint team immediately pursued the armed men, applying pressure that proved too intense for the bandits to withstand.
The fleeing gunmen were forced to abandon all 25 abducted victims, allowing the security team to recover them unharmed.
The successful rescue underscores the growing collaboration between formal security agencies and community-based protection groups in tackling persistent banditry in the state. It also highlights the lingering insecurity that rural communities continue to face, even as authorities intensify counter-bandit operations.
