The Kaduna State Government has strongly rejected recent claims made by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who said that the current government paid ₦1 billion to bandits. The state describes this claim as false, misleading, and without any evidence.

The government explained that the claim is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, cause unrest, and undermine the progress Kaduna has made in restoring peace and security. They also criticized El-Rufai for politicizing such a serious security issue instead of promoting unity and truth.

Governor Uba Sani has repeatedly stated publicly that his administration has never paid or negotiated with bandits, and he does not support any dealings with criminals.

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Nigeria’s top security body, has also dismissed similar false claims by El-Rufai in the past. They emphasized that no government in Nigeria pays ransom or money to criminals.

Kaduna’s current security approach focuses on working with communities, military and intelligence operations, and addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and marginalization. The government stresses that they do not legitimize or fund criminals.

Communities like Birnin-Gwari, which suffered heavily during El-Rufai’s time as governor, have publicly rejected his claims. They say their experience contradicts his statements.

Some officials from El-Rufai’s former government have even accused him of misusing public funds to pay criminals, raising questions about his current claims.

Since taking office, Governor Uba Sani has worked to stabilize communities, improve security, and rebuild trust among citizens. The Kaduna State Government has called on El-Rufai to produce credible evidence—such as bank documents or security reports—to support his claims. So far, no proof has been provided.

The government has also demanded that El-Rufai apologize for spreading false information. If he fails to do so within one week, legal action will be taken.

Kaduna remains committed to transparency, responsible security management, and protecting all its citizens. The state says it will no longer accept unfounded accusations and is focused on effective and honest governance.
